Madame X, a high ranking member of the Sisterhood of the Pointy Heels' politburo, made a comment that she suspected Nina Hagen of being an attempted He/She infiltrator to the sisterhood.

Nina Hagen

I realise that, as Madame advances in years, her grasp of reality may have become a little tenuous. I realise that Madame, as a child of the nineteen-thirties, finds anything which came after about nineteen-fifty a little confusing and a little threatening.

Nina's stage persona is pretty threatening, I suppose, a pioneer of punk-rock, rubber-faced, sharp-edged at times, but fully female from the start. She did not grow up in short pants as Nikolaus, and go under the knife in later years.

Little Nina born in 1955, grew up in East Germany, daughter of an actress and a writer. Her parents divorced when she was two, and her mother remarried, to dissident poet/singer/songwriter/writer Wolf Biermann.

Biermann was banned from publishing his poems, and performing his songs, Nina grew up in a household under suspicion by the state security police.

Like many little girls, she started ballet classes at age four, sang constantly, and was, by age nine, something of a prodigy, expected to become an opera singer. Her heroine was Astrid Lindgren's "Pippi Longstocking", a little girl who seizes all opportunities without a care for the consequences, and lives life to the full.

She studied acting, and loved singing and performing, but was seen as being too flamboyant and impulsive by her dour, grey, east-german mentors.

When Biermann visited West Berlin to perform in a concert, the East German authorities declared him to be an "enemy of the state", and refused him re-entry to his homeland. Nina's mother went too. Nina, making the false claim that he was her natural father, applied for an exit visa, but was refused.

She caused a fuss, and threatened to become a worse thorn in their sides than Biermann had ever been. By that time she was a well known performer, and the government kicked her out with, one suspects, a sigh of relief.

As soon as she hit the west, the demure little girl morphed into the valkyrie of punk.

But still all-woman!

Whilst pregnant, she claims to have seen a flying saucer, which led to her naming her daughter Cosma-Shiva.

Cosma-Shiva is now a well known actress in Germany, and significantly less controversial than her mother.

I realise Mildred X will remain unconvinced, but I'll post a couple more videos now, showing the young Nina, before her metamorphosis. I think it's clear, even in the early days, that this girl was not going to be a compliant little drone, her personality is too strong for her to stay in step with the crowd.

One of her songs "Du Hast den Farbfilm Vergessen", ("You Forgot the Colour Film") was ostensibly about a girl castigating her boyfriend for forgetting the colour film on holiday, whilst being a tongue-in-cheek satire of the greyness of communist East Germany.

be saying, though I’m no longer
in a position really to judge,
having stopped listening some time ago.
He’s from the Iowa Writers Workshop
and can therefore get along fine
without my attention. He started in
reading poems about his childhood—
barns, cornsnakes, gradeschool, flowers,
that sort of stuff—the loss of
innocence he keeps talking about
between poems, which I can relate to,
especially under these circumstances.
Now he’s on to science, a poem
about hydrogen, I think, he’s trying
to imagine himself turning into hydrogen.
Maybe he’ll succeed. I’m imagining
myself sliding up his wife’s fluid,
rhythmic, lusciously curved, black-
stockinged legs, imagining them arched
around my shoulders, wrapped around my back.
My God, why doesn’t he write poems about her!
He will, no doubt, once she leaves him,
leaves him for another poet, perhaps,
the observant, uninnocent one, who knows
a poem when it sits down in a room with him.

The mystery of how you people manage to walk in those things has always puzzled me, ever since seeing my sister try out my mother's shoes at the age of five. Believe me, she could shuffle round all day like that, but fell and crashed into furniture quite often. Along with the shoes, she put on a big dose of bossiness, and learned to mutter darkly about toes, ankles, bunnions...
She, of course, had no idea what all that meant, it was just picked up from grown-up ladies she saw crying with relief after they kicked off their shoes under the table, in an all-woman safe-zone. Called the coffee-morning, where my mother would pretend that the house was always spotlessly tidy, that we always used fine china cups and saucers, always silver spoons.....
I was about four then, and learning the value of careful observation.

So I see now, you have bronze training robots for your toddlers to dance with.
Fiendishly clever.

Sistahs, Pointy Heels are overcome by yet another species of footwear. I speak of no other than the "electric light shoes"...

The electric light shoes were designed for a Japanese footwear company, Onitsuka Tiger, by Freedom of Creation.

The shoe is 3 feet long and contains a miniature city inside, the stripes resemble streets and highways and tall building point out from the shoe’s opening. The huge shoe is intended to communicate Onitsuka Tiger’s Japanese roots.

You tell me, sistahs, no matter how bright and pretty, can we allow this sort of thing - especially if it insists on delivering itself without a pointy heel in sight?

The Brotherhood of the Besmirched Countenance, unable to do it for themselves (unlike sisters, who always do it for themselves), have called in reserve troops. Although it has been suggested that the Sisters are interfering with these special forces, I would advice the Knight of the Besmirched Countenance that tickling a squirrel under the arms is not the same as tickling his nuts. Pul-lease, does the Knight not even know where a squirrel keeps his nuts?

Nevertheless, it has been noted by the Sisterhood of the Pointy Heel that the squirrels are taking things rather seriously - if recent reports are to be believed.

Oh yes, they appear to be armed and dangerous!

We have, however, a time-honoured means of dealing with these little perishers. The Nutcracker Squadron has been created. And these are some of the tools of the squadron's trade.

Very useful, I am sure.
A few years ago, there was a spate of injuries amongst the sisterhood, caused by uncontrolled bouncing.
Tennis players, joggers, athletes of all sorts, and all manner of sistahs breathed a sigh of relief as Anna Kournikova demonstrated, at Wimbledon, that the dreaded bounce could be tamed. Of course, sticky tape, tight bandages and body armour do the job, but Kourni was chosen to accept a large lump of money from Berlei, and put their de-bouncing sports bra to the test, watched by the world, on the centre court at Wimbledon.

She, it, um...they, were doing quite well, until the umpire called out "New balls please!", and a spectator, (who the Brotherhood of the Besmirched Countenance claim not to know), leapt onto the court to offer new balls.
Sistahs, -as anyone who observed closely will tell you, these balls were far from new.
The umpire was not amused, matadors were sent in to capture the offender as he repeatedly hurdled the net, demonstrating his complete disregard for the comforts of the Ball-Bra.

He was fast, acrobatic and elusive....But ultimately not elusive enough.

The streaker had a slogan written upon his chest....

But remember, Sistahs. Streaking is not just for the boys.

Yes, indeed, dear SOTPH, and there are many updates on last year's model. The inclusion of the integral lipstick holder and pop-out mirror is enough to titivate the most jaded of palates. The PH design team has also excelled itself with the addition of a pull down hair protector with built-in hairspray machine. We are delighted.

You may note the poor attempt at disguise by the Brothers to cover that dreadful stealth wagon to the side. Will they learn nothing about style?
